The Big Debut (Sun 7th Oct)

Brilliant 'Indian Summer' conditions for Sandrine's first day's racing. Seemed strange to be loooking at Rhocodar on the water (bit like an out-of-body experience!).

Welcome Home - by Tomas Furey

Good morning all.

The Conboy family arrived in Galway yesterday with their First 32s5 “Sandrine”.
This was the last leg of their delivery trip that started in Grimsby on August 9th
Since then they have encountered up to six meter swells, flew their spinnaker into the solent, registered forty seven knots
over the deck and drank more wine than could be carried by a pack mule… (that right Tricia?? J)
On board for the final leg from Dingle were Ian, Marie and Rian as well as Declan, Valerie and Marina.

During the trip Ian and family were joined by the following at various stages.
Darragh, Pascal, Miriam, Declan, Valerie, Marina, Tricia, Grace, Lorraine, Alan, and me.

Wishing them fair sailing.

Another Sunset-- With Marina and Declan and of course-- Loop Head.

How to keep the crew happy

A chicken and broccoli dinner, I'd expect no less from Marie as we head into the last leg of our trip - Aran Islands to Galway Bay

Calm arrival day

Valentia Island and more Champagne

After a group hug the cabin got awfully steamy.

Knightstown, Valentia Island

The previous three hours were spent in very limited visibility, 6 mtr swell and force 8 gusting to gale force 9.......so you will just have to excuse "The bad hair day"

Guests on Board

My brother Paul and Donna met us in Poole, We had spoken earlier in the day by phone and arranged to meet that evening in Poole, but after a hard days sailing with 40 kts of wind, heard 2 maydays on the VHF and sailed from Cowes passing the Needles on route, I had forgotten about our rendez-vous. When just entering the outer harbour and damm glad to be in the shelter of land I spoted a body jumping up and down and waving with great vigor on the shore at the end of a rocky outcrop. Well,I expected to go aground in seconds and threw the boat out to sea again to to save our souls from at least embarassment, when Darragh noticed something familar about our would be saviour.

The river Dart

One evening we explored upstream of Dartmouth to Dittisham on the tender and promptly ran out of petrol, but drifting back after a few bevies we passed the former Agatha Christie's home high up in the woods and hidden but judgeing by her boat house it must be impressive!

Phew

My sister Jill and friends visited us on a very hot day while we were in a marina in Dartmouth. We had the only Irish flag flying there.

Rian impressing the girls in Darthmouth, Devon.

After leaving the protection of Lands End on our way to the Scillies and the first time in "open water" the sea state suddenly became what we are now used to, on the West Coast.

Inspection time

Tomas, where he is happiest, and would only go to sea when he's sure that the mast wont come down on him. I was glad when he gave it the thumb's up.
